Simpson Grierson’s Construction Law Group understands the industry. We specialise in Construction Law and have in-depth experience gained from many decades advising on projects, contracts and dispute resolution in the construction industry. Our experience stretches across all industry sectors including telecommunications, roading and transport, water and wastewater, oil and gas, solid waste, energy, mining, tunnelling and building (including commercial, residential, hospitals, hotels and prisons).
We have been involved in many, if not most, major construction projects in New Zealand. We have also advised clients on a number of international projects and have experience in the United Kingdom, Australia, Fiji and the South Pacific, South-East Asia and Africa.

A key speciality is advising both public and private sector clients on Public Private Partnerships (“PPPs”). Simpson Grierson’s position as the country’s leading advisers in both local government and infrastructure projects places us in a unique position of expertise. Our experience in bringing the public and private sector together to ensure “best value” delivery of public infrastructure and services extends back many years, and in recent years we have been involved in many, if not most, of the major privately financed infrastructure projects in New Zealand. These include DBFO and BOOT structures.
We also advise clients on innovative methods of procurement and contract structuring and regularly assist clients to develop and implement partnering, alliancing and other collaborative working initiatives. Our experience includes establishing the collaborative working relationships for the Ministry of Defence’s Regional Prisons Development Project, the alliance for the development of the Stockton Plateau coal resources, and the Free Flow Alliance established for the Grafton Gully Motorway project in Auckland. We also embrace innovation in dispute resolution where it will assist our clients in achieving a better outcome. We have expertise in all aspects of alternative dispute resolution, including mediation, adjudication and dispute review boards, which complements our experience with traditional forums for disputes such as arbitration and litigation.
