Andrew is a Partner in the Corporate/Commercial Group of Simpson Grierson's Commercial Department and co-leads our Private Capital (private equity and venture capital) Group.

Andrew's practice has a transactional focus and international flavour.  He provides a broad range of commercial advice to clients over a spectrum of industries.  He frequently advises on investment transactions and related structures, acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures, and supply and distribution arrangements.

Andrew has played an important role in the growth of New Zealand's venture capital sector.  He acted on the establishment of the New Zealand government owned New Zealand Venture Investment Fund (VIF), the lead investor in the six venture capital funds currently active in the New Zealand market.  He is currently assisting VIF in respect of a new fund round and in respect of the Seed Co-Investment Fund programme for investment of government funds alongside "angel" syndicates.

• Establishment of all VIF venture capital funds, including to date the TMT Ventures, No 8 (No. 2) Fund, Endeavour i-Cap, iGlobe Treasury, BioPacificVentures and Pioneer venture funds
• iGlobe Treasury Fund's venture capital investments in Meracol, Wise Giant, Xegen, ECONZ Wireless to the United States and subsequent investment round, Virtual Katy and Zephyr Technologies (and including migration of two of the companies)
• Auckland University in connection with participation in a Trans Tasman Collaboration Fund with Australian Universities and Superannuation Funds
• LanzaTech in connection with investment in that company by US venture capitalist, Khosla Ventures and establishment of US operations
• Syndicated investment rounds in various technology companies by various angel investment groups including Ice Angels, Manawatu Investment Group, Upstart (Otago)
• Advising the corporate, concrete and distribution divisions of Fletcher Building, including various acquisitions and dispositions and remodelling of the PlaceMakers franchise and joint venture model
• Tabua Investments' resort developments and structuring for Denarau Island, Fiji of approximately $200 million sales value, including Sheraton Denarau Villas, Golf Terrace Apartments, Radisson Fiji Resort and Port Denarau Retail Centre
