We begin with a broad focus, incorporating firm-wide programmes such as thorough induction for all new starters, core skills programmes for junior solicitors, and on-going technology training for all legal and support staff. We then narrow the focus to cater for specialist legal areas such as litigation skills, business driver awareness and technical legal master classes.
S.T.R.I.V.E. to be the Best
Simpson Grierson's professional development is centred around a framework called S.T.R.I.V.E. - which stands for Success Through Review, Innovation, Vision and Education. S.T.R.I.V.E. is an ongoing career management and performance evaluation system designed to provide constructive feedback, education and career guidance. S.T.R.I.V.E. promotes fairness by recognising and rewarding you for excellence.
Personal Planning and Review
Fundamental to driving a performance culture is a robust performance management system. S.T.R.I.V.E. enables you to design your own personal career plan by explicitly defining what is expected of you in your role, and what you will need to develop and progress your career. The S.T.R.I.V.E. performance evaluation and personal planning process is carried out annually with your partner/manager.
Professional Development
In order for you to succeed, Simpson Grierson provides you with a range of outstanding professional development opportunities that will provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to reach the top of your profession.

We begin with a broad focus, incorporating firm-wide programmes such a thorough induction andtechnology training. We then narrow the focus to incorporate specialist legal areas such as litigation skills and business driver awareness.
We also have a cutting edge leadership programme that starts from the top with the Board and partners. The firm has a mentoring programme that supports the guidance and development of legal staff by fostering relationships with other more experienced partners and solicitors.
Study Support
We promote continued education, and support employees in furthering their tertiary studies, or undertaking additional training courses related to their particular area of expertise.
We encourage and support lawyers to undertake post-graduate study overseas. To enable our staff to obtain specialist qualifications and work experience we may provide financial assistance, leave of absence and where appropriate a referral to an overseas law firm.
