Environmental Business Practices
We are committed to caring for the environment. We incorporate environmentally sound principles into everyday business practices and constantly seek ways to improve in this area.
We have identified various areas as crucial to the environmentally efficient running of the firm:
- reducing waste in all areas, and the implementation of environmentally acceptable waste disposal programmes
- minimising the use of hazardous substances while controlling and monitoring the unavoidable use and disposal of such substances
- enhancing energy efficiency by identifying unnecessary usage, and implementing strategies to reduce such usage
- maximising the use of equipment that can be utilised, maintained and disposed of in an environmentally safe manner
- maximising the re-use of materials where possible
- recycling materials where possible
- ensuring our suppliers and service providers are committed to environmental management and sustainability
We endeavour to manage these and associated areas, to monitor and review environmental processes regularly, and to motivate and involve partners and staff in actively pursuing sensible environmental management.
Examples of our efforts in this area include:
- Environment Committee - In 2006 we established an Environment Committee. This committee was tasked with promoting environmental best practice and motivating partners and staff to pursue sensible environmental management. We have introduced a new recycling and waste reduction programme and improved our systems for energy efficiency within our buildings.
- Sustainable Business Network - We are members of this network and are participating in their "Get Sustainable Challenge". This will help us to become more sustainable and to measure our performance along the way.
- Infill Planting of Native Trees - Members of our partners and staff have carried out planting for both the Motutapu Restoration Trust and Motuihe Island Trust.
