We have wide experience in obligations under the Commerce Act as well as industry specific access legislation.  Our commercial and regulatory team are experts, routinely advising suppliers of essential services on infrastructure and a range of access issues.

We have been involved over many years in the provision of advice on operational matters relating to energy, utilities and networks.  We advise suppliers of such services on matters relating to network access, interconnection and pricing, establishment and enforceability of standard utility contracts, as well as regulatory compliance of these services.

Our team specialises in contracts for access and interconnection.  This includes construction, operation, repair and maintenance of major infrastructure assets, for example, water and wastewater treatment, gas and electricity transmission/distribution networks, broadcast infrastructure, telecommunications and rail infrastructure.  Our skills and experience encompass complex negotiations and contract drafting, speciality industry knowledge of underlying economic and risk allocation principles, and tight project management.

On matters related to telecommunication network build, we work closely with clients and their professional teams.  We complement client teams by adding our internal experts from our capital projects, construction and procurement, resource management and litigation teams.

Simpson Grierson people have direct industry experience.  This comes through advising both vendors and developers over utility access arrangements into large scale subdivision and commercial developments, such as New Zealand's largest mixed use development – Sylvia Park.

Our knowledge of the complex legislation which governs such access and sector issues (at both a macro and a day-to-day level), means we can add real value as your legal services provider.
