Land Transport

From helping integrate the future urban form though to complex commercial agreements for logistics and distribution, we are an authority when it comes to land transport.

Our clients include major transport operators such as Toll NZ, major local authorities and Transit New Zealand.  Being one of New Zealand's leading commercial law firms we deliver coherent and integrated legal advice.  We advise upon all aspects of freight management, logistics and distribution as well as its funding, business operations and structures, employment law, IT, intellectual property as well as related dispute resolution.

Simpson Grierson pioneered tolling through the Weiti Toll Road (Penlink Project); our work on public private partnerships has since been incorporated in the LTMA.  Having provided construction law advice on many major projects we assist with initial planning, consenting and construction right through to commissioning. We are leaders in the Resource Management Act and other environmental and local government legislation including Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) Act, Land Transport Management Act (and related transport rules), Public Works Act, Transit New Zealand Act and the Local Government Act.

We are able to assist with:

negotiating and documenting commercial agreements
the funding and structuring of business operations
commercial dispute resolution
construction projects
interpreting transport related legislation, transport rules and related local authority bylaws
acquiring land for projects by way of negotiation or compulsion
funding projects and capital equipment in the debt markets
tolling and other forms of local road network procurement
advising councils on Land Transport NZ competitive pricing procedures (CPP) requirements (volume one)
occupational safety, health and employment issues
resolving transport disputes with specialist litigators where needed
