Hugh specialises in asset protection, succession planning, trusts, wills, and estates. His considerable work experience in both New Zealand and the United Kingdom includes asset protection planning, succession planning, all aspects of trust work (including trust establishment, trust administration, trusts dispute, and trust restructuring and review), and all aspects of estate administration.

His areas of expertise include the impact of the Family Protection Act, the Property (Relationships) Act, and the Law Reform (Testamentary Promises) Act on preparation of wills and administration of estates. He also advises clients holding assets in multiple jurisdictions (particularly the United Kingdom in relation to inheritance tax consequences) on requirements for executing wills in separate jurisdictions.

Hugh also advises clients on the preparation of enduring powers of attorney and advises attorneys on their role under enduring powers of attorney.
