Joanna is a senior associate in the firm's commercial group.
Joanna uses her skills and experience as tools in focussing on achieving client-driven outcomes. She enjoys getting to know the business and needs of her clients. She builds her understanding of what matters to the client into her advice.
A large part of Joanna's practice involves the energy and infrastructure sectors. She advises on a broad range of commercial issues, competition law and industry specific regulatory regimes, and has particular expertise around the commercial arrangements required for emissions trading.
Joanna also helps companies with all aspects of corporate governance, from Companies Act compliance to board policies and regulatory compliance programmes. She has extensive experience in the capital markets area, having advised on public and private capital raisings and associated securities and listing rule compliance issues.
Westpac's Wellington legal team has welcomed Joanna on secondment several times, giving her valuable exposure to the practical needs of business.

- Gas industry regulation, transmission arrangements and a range of other gas sector issues
- PPP arrangements, including ongoing operational aspects
- Advising on the sale of verified emission reduction units and Kyoto units and advising on participation in and trading through the Emissions Trading Scheme
- Advising on all aspects of the Securities Act, Securities Markets Act, and NZX Listing Rules including public and private offers, employee share schemes, exemptions, and waivers, and advising on financial adviser obligations
- Advising various employer sponsored superannuation schemes on issues that arise and on compliance with relevant laws
