Kathryn is a senior associate in the firm's local government and environment group in Wellington. She is a public lawyer, with experience in advising both local and central government clients.

Kathryn advises clients on their decision-making processes, helping them to make legally robust decisions that achieve their objectives. She has experience of the legislative process, having worked with government departments to develop and progress legislation, and helped other organisations to engage effectively with departments and select committees. Kathryn is also skilled in advising on the handling of requests for official information and personal information.

She has considerable expertise in advising both public and private sector clients on their compliance with the privacy principles in the Privacy Act.

  • Auckland City Council - its review of its gambling venues, street trading, and liquor licensing policies
  • Auckland City Council - its submission to the Royal Commission on Auckland Governance, and drafted its submissions to the select committee on the Local Government (Auckland Council) Bill and the Local Government (Auckland Law Reform) Bill
  • A Crown entity - its compliance with the Crown Entities Act, including reviewing Ministerial directions, drafting its conflict of interests policy, and advising on delegations
  • Advised on the development of the Building Amendment Act 2005, the Weathertight Homes Resolution Services Act, and on the Building (Specified Systems, Change the Use, and Earthquake-prone Buildings) Regulations 2005, including preparing drafting instructions for Parliamentary Counsel
  • A state-owned enterprise - its compliance with the Privacy Act, including advising on a nation-wide survey, use of information for mailing lists, and providing personal information to companies based overseas
  • Secondments as a legal adviser at the New Zealand Transport Agency, the Department of Internal Affairs, the Department of Building and Housing, and the Ministry of Research, Science and Technology
