From Canterbury to Cambridge

Morgan Simes, a Law Graduate at Simpson Grierson, has been accepted in the Master of Laws programme at the elite Christ's College, Cambridge.

His connection to Cambridge began with his schooling, when he attended Christ's College in Canterbury, which was established by members of Christ's College, Cambridge .

Scheduled to fly out in September, Morgan is the recipient of three scholarships based on his academic achievements - the Spencer Mason Travelling Scholarship in Law, Tripp Travelling Scholarship and Link Foundation Cambridge Bursary from the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust in addition to funding from Simpson Grierson.

His talents don't stop there however, he has also been offered a spot on the prestigious Clare College Choir, one of the leading university choral groups in England if not the world.

"The combination of law and music makes for a fairly tough regime based on the amount of study and practice, but I was a member of the ChristChurch Cathedral Choir when I was at  Canterbury, so I am prepared for it."

At Canterbury, Morgan literally sang for his supper. "I was on a John Robert Godley Scholarship which essentially paid my school fees in exchange for singing with the choir. I can continue to combine my two passions at Cambridge by completing post graduate law studies and singing with some of the best in the world."

If faced with a career choice between law and music, Morgan already has the answer. "I believe my passions can co-exist. I always plan to practice law and sing on the side."

Recently Morgan recorded a CD with some other members of the ChristChurch Cathedral Choir entitled Memento. The CD is available from retail outlets and the ChristChurch Cathedral Choir website and all proceeds go towards restoration of the Christchurch Cathedral and the preservation of the choir http://www.christchurchcathedral.co.nz/shop/music/memento.php
