8 September 2006 - Simpson Grierson, one of New Zealand's leading commercial law firms, today announced two winners of this year's $1500 Employment Law Prize for the top student in the University of Auckland's employment law class.
Congratulations to Brendon Orr and Francine Timmins for being named winners of this year's award. They had the highest marks for the employment law course at Auckland University.
While the competition for the award is always close and fierce, this is the first year the award has been split among two winners.
Auckland University Employment Law Associate Professor Bill Hodge said the two submitted outstanding exams.
"They were able to see and deal with the posed problems in a very mature way," said Hodge. "It was very impressive how they managed the issues, which were cutting edge issues. It was something you'd expect from someone who has been in practice for at least a few years."
Simpson Grierson employment law partner Phillipa Muir presented the cheques to Brendon and Francine this week at Simpson Grierson's Auckland office.
"We are delighted to be able to recognise outstanding students like Brendon and Francine and to honour their achievements," said Muir.
