Our Resource Management and Environmental Law Group provides specialist advice under the Resource Management Act (RMA) to a range of clients from individuals to corporates and local government.

We advise clients from a range of industries including mining, energy, property development, forestry, water and waste water, waste management, retail, manufacturing and public sector utilities.

The group has extensive day-to-day involvement in resource management issues such as resource consent applications, plan drafting, submissions and appeals, project management, representation before local authorities, the Environment Court, the High Court and the Court of Appeal, and pursuing and defending enforcement action.

We advise on the full range of RMA issues including RMA due diligence, environmental dispute resolution, water and coastal management, natural hazards, water and air pollution and resource allocation.

We have also advised on the environmental legislation and commercial aspects of the first privately funded and owned toll road in New Zealand.

Our group also deals with other environmental legislation including HSNO (Hazardous Substances and New Organisms) and The Building Act, as well as Maori and Treaty issues, public liability matters (for example nuisance and negligence claims against public bodies) and judicial review of statutory decisions.

We are the largest supplier of advice and dispute resolution support to local authorities including many District , City and Regional authorities. We believe that our experience and specialisation in this area gives us a considerable advantage in dealing with RMA and other environmental law matters.
