Bill is a Partner in our Local Government & Environment Group in the Auckland office of Simpson Grierson.
He specialises in the areas of local government, resource management and environmental law.
A significant part of Bill's work relates to litigation and alternative dispute resolution. He regularly appears before the Environment Court, the High Court, the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court in a wide variety of resource management cases. He has been involved in many of the leading cases in this area including a number of lengthy judicial review proceedings such as Arrigato, Dye, Body Corporate, the Jean Batten building in Auckland City, the Fox Outlet Centre in Northcote and the Pak 'n Save in Wairau Valley. These cases have collectively helped shape how New Zealand's environmental legislation is interpreted and administered.
Bill's main clients include Auckland City Council, North Shore City Council, Rodney District Council, Transit New Zealand and Bunnings. He also acts for a number of other corporate and developer clients.
He has extensive expertise in large infrastructure projects including the Link Road Project (which connects the new State Highway to the old State Highway), the Weiti Crossing (providing an alternative access to Whangaparaoa Peninsula), the Whangaparaoa pipeline from Orewa to Army Bay, and the Tauranga City Council southern wastewater pipeline.
