Colin was previously a Partner with Simpson Grierson and convenor of the firm's Government and Business Group.

Colin specialises in company, commercial and mining law. He also has wide experience in securities law. He has an extensive background dealing with regulatory bodies such as the Securities Commission and the New Zealand Stock Exchange.

Colin has formulated and presented submissions to select committees and negotiated with officials on amendments to mining legislation to the Tower Corporation Act.

Since 1987, Colin has had frequent contact and involvement with Cabinet Ministers and officials. This has come about through his roles as:

• Chairman of the Accident Compensation Corporation
• A Ministerial appointee on the Wellington Area Health Board
• A board member of the Wellington Polytechnic and Government Life Office
• Chairman of Government Property Services and the subsequent IPO of Capital Properties by the Crown
