Graeme is a Partner in Simpson Grierson's Litigation Department, specialising in commercial and corporate litigation and arbitration.  He acts for national and international clients on all forms of dispute resolution and has conducted many trials and arbitrations, and appeared numerous times in the High Court and Court of Appeal.

Graeme's area of specialisation is in property and construction matters, with more than 25 years' experience. 

He regularly acts for principals, consultants, contractors and subcontractors on a wide range of construction issues, including structuring and contract documentation, joint venture agreements, alliancing, partnering, GMPs, Code Compliance, and dispute resolution by negotiation, mediation, adjudication or arbitration. 

Graeme also has considerable experience with the Health & Safety in Employment Act, and has successfully defended a number of prosecutions involving fatalities.  He has also appeared in coroners' hearings.

• Advised and assisted the international consortium on the successful negotiation of the award to it, and ongoing work relating to, the refurbishment of the Manukau Sewerage ponds (Project Manukau) - one of New Zealand’s largest construction projects
• Acted for Canam Construction in the Court of Appeal in the leading and landmark decision on adjudication and the Construction Contracts Act
• Advising Oceana Gold on the termination of the decline contract following the administration of Henry Walker Elkin and advising on the replacement alliance contract for construction of the $85 million Frasers Underground decline access to the ore body
• Acting for supplier/contractor on Te Rapa Co Generation Plant and established deemed taking over and cessation of liquidated damages
• Acting for Ministry of Justice on large claim against contractor and architect on Manukau Court roof
• Instructed in many of the major claims involving leaky buildings for contractors, cladding suppliers or timber suppliers
• Successfully recovered by arbitration more than $2 million for the joint venture on Kiwi Dairy upgrade
• Advised on major infrastructure projects including Moa Point, Kupe Gas oilfield, and Pohakura
• Advised on construction issues for the Eden Park New North Stand, Westpac Stadium, Hamilton Stadium and Jade Stadium
• Representing Aotearoa Kiwifruit Exporters (a group of kiwifruit growers) before the High Court and successfully establishing a breach of statutory duty by way of discriminatory behaviour by Zespri against the growers
• Advised the main contractor on the contract conditions and ongoing issues during construction of the Auckland Hospital A+ $350 million upgrade
• Obtained summary judgment in the High Court and Court of Appeal for specific performance on a multi-million dollar beachfront property
• Acted for Westfield to successfully defend a substantial claim arising from a leasing dispute
• Established liability against the designer following the collapse of Prima Bridge in Vanuatu
