Michael is a partner in Simpson Grierson's Resources and Infrastructure Department, which is comprised of the commercial property, construction, and local government and environment workgroups. Michael specialises in the local government, infrastructure and property law fields.
He advises local authorities and other organisations on the acquisition, disposal, development, leasing, management and operation of their property assets, and provides strategic advice on these and a wide range of local government activities. For example, Michael has advised on roading acquisition programmes, roading development and operation, parks, reserves and other public facilities, reclamations, and infrastructure projects, such as utility corridors, tunnels and bridges.
Michael represents a number of significant local authorities including Tauranga City, Auckland City, North Shore City, Rodney District, and Franklin District, and also acts for Transit New Zealand, Vector Limited, Auckland University of Technology and Newmont Waihi Gold.
Michael is widely experienced in all aspects of commercial property work, leasing and land subdivision and development, acting for both local authorities and private developers. He also has expertise in the law relating to the Foreshore and Seabed Act 2004 and provides advice to local authorities and private developers in relation to this.
