Peter leads the Corporate Group of Simpson Grierson's Commercial Department, a group of specialist corporate and securities lawyers providing strategic advice on high-profile and complex transactions.  He co-leads the firm's Competition Law Group.

Peter advises SMEs, corporates and multinationals on all aspects of business law, including takeovers, mergers and acquisitions, corporate structuring and financing, joint ventures, IPOs, capital markets, private capital and competition law.

Peter frequently advises on particularly high-profile deals.  Examples include Origin Energy's acquisition of a 51.22 per cent interest in Contact Energy (described by the New Zealand Herald as the "largest deal of the year"), and its recent dual-listed company merger proposal with Contact Energy, and the Pumpkin Patch IPO (described by the New Zealand Herald as the "float of the year").

In April 2005, Peter was named the inaugural New Zealand Dealmaker of the Year at the prestigious Australasian Legal Business Deals of the Year Awards.  This award recognised Peter's outstanding abilities in the corporate sector, having led a team of lawyers that helped drive deals to successful completion in the previous year.
