Peter is a Partner in Simpson Grierson's Commercial Department. Peter specialises in commercial law and, specifically helps: mid-sized companies grow; foreign investors set up in New Zealand and companies to navigate the maze of laws governing selling and marketing products and services.
Peter is New Zealand's leader in sales and marketing law which includes advertising, events, sponsorship, sales promotions, distribution and licensing. He combines his legal knowledge with eight years' board experience on marketing-led organisations. He is the legal counsel for The New Zealand Marketing Association. He is also the legal counsel for the Direct Selling Association of New Zealand and specialises in all aspects of direct marketing and direct selling law, including the law relating to network marketing. He has been a bi-monthly columnist for New Zealand's Marketing Magazine since 1995. Peter also regularly speaks, and is interviewed, on marketing law topics.
Peter advises companies (particularly overseas-based companies) in the forestry and wood products industries on acquisitions and joint ventures through to operational contracts. Since 1987 he has led the legal team in more than 60 acquisitions and joint ventures.
Since 1985, he has advised corporates on credit issues and insolvency practitioners. Peter was named as New Zealand's leading lawyer for insolvency and restructuring expertise by Who'sWhoLegal 2006. He was also named as a Leading Lawyer in Corporate/M&A in the 2006 edition of Chambers Global.
Peter is Deputy Chairman of the Aotea Centre, the owner/operator of the largest integrated performing arts, convention and entertainment complex in New Zealand.
