Robert is a Partner in the Corporate/Commercial Group of Simpson Grierson's Commercial Department.

He advises on and negotiates all aspects of corporate transactions, including financing, capital raising, public offerings, mergers, acquisitions, sales, reorganisations and general contractual matters.  Robert also advises on aviation, technology and communications issues and has assisted with various venture capital initiatives.

He has provided advice to public companies and government organisations on the establishment of state owned enterprises and continues to advise some of those entities, particularly in the electricity sector.

Robert acts for significant international and New Zealand corporates, including Mighty River Power, BASF, Sprint Corporation, Fosters, Schindler, TMP/Hudson, Toll Holdings, Energex and Virgin Blue/Pacific Blue Airlines.


  • Waikato IDG (now Mighty River Power)'s establishment and separation issues arising from the split of ECNZ into three state owned enterprises
  • Mighty River Power's acquisition of Southdown gas-fired power station and associated issues
  • Energex's arrangements with the line companies of Vector and Waikato Electricity, and the acquisition of businesses and maintenance arrangements from United Networks
  • Powerco's various supply contracts with customers
  • Rodney District Council's establishment of its maintenance LATE and subsequent merger with the Waitemata maintenance LATE
  • Accenture's restructuring of its New Zealand business and subsequent acquisition of the Navataire business
  • Virgin Blue/Pacific Blue's entry into the New Zealand and trans-Tasman aviation markets and its issue of shares in Australia
  • Freedom Air's establishment and initial years of operation
  • Bonlac Laboratories' joint venture interest with Fonterra its interest in Australasian Food Holdings
  • Newmont Corporation/Waihi Gold's various restructuring issues
  • Toll Holdings' takeover of Tranz Rail New Zealand
  • Counties Manukau Health's negotiations with the New Zealand government before its transfer of assets as part of the health reforms
