Adam's areas of expertise are debt finance (bonds and loans), derivatives, general banking law advisory work and IT. Since joining Simpson Grierson in October 2003, Adam has worked on a number of major financings, including the financing of PPCS, both for its acquisition of Richmond and for its ongoing activities, the financing of Spring Creek Mining Company (an incorporated JV between Cargill and Solid Energy), the financing of the Wrightson takeover by RPI and the financing of the acquisition of the Guardian Healthcare Group by the private equity vehicle, Aged Care Services.

Adam has a substantial local authority finance practice, acting for a large number of local authorities on their debt financing and investments, and also has a substantial property finance practice.

Adam has advised a wide range of clients on the technical details and effects of the Personal Property Securities Act and, as well as presenting at a number of conferences, was one of the two presenters of the New Zealand Law Society's 2006 nationwide seminar series on the Act.

Adam joined Simpson Grierson from the leading London based international law firm Linklaters, where he specialised in bonds and derivatives.  While at Linklaters he acted for most of the world's largest investment banks (including Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase Bank, Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs).  He also established a number of EMTN programmes, and oversaw more than 100 bond issuances, including "vanilla" bonds, convertible bonds, synthetic CDOs and others.  He has documented numerous derivatives, ranging from relatively simple derivatives, such as interest rate swaps, to highly complex derivatives, such as portfolio credit default swaps. He was Linklaters' representative on ISDA's Credit Derivatives Market Practice Committee.

In addition to banking and finance work, Adam has an IT practice, which involves drafting and negotiating IT contracts. His clients in New Zealand include BP, IRD and Westpac. He has previously worked on contract for a number of organisations in London, negotiating their IT contracts with British Telecom and other major IT providers.

Before moving to London, Adam worked at the Ministry of Commerce (now MED), where he provided policy advice on business law and intellectual property rights issues.  During his time at the Ministry he oversaw legislation and regulations through the entire process from policy decision-making to enactment.  He regularly advised ministers, cabinet committees and select committees and developed an in-depth knowledge of the workings of the policy and legislative processes.
