Katherine is a Senior Associate in the Employment Law Group and is based in Auckland. She advises on all areas of employment law including personal grievances, Holidays Act issues, restructuring and business sales, and bargaining and other union issues.
Katherine has extensive mediation experience and has also appeared in the Employment Relations Authority to defend clients against personal grievance claims. She has represented clients in the District Court on health and safety matters.
Katherine has experience in dealing with industrial action and has advised and represented clients facing strike action by employees.
She has also acted as lead advocate for clients in collective bargaining and provided strategic advice on claims and negotiations behind the scenes in other cases.
- Successful representation of clients facing personal grievance claims in the Employment Relations Authority, including constructive dismissal and sexual harassment cases.
- Undertaking investigations for clients into bullying and sexual harassment allegations.
- Involvement, as junior counsel, in significant Employment Court proceedings relating to industrial action taking place in the public health sector.
- A six-month secondment to a large public-sector client, where she led the bargaining team in negotiations for a new collective agreement and advised on all employee relations issues.
