Lucy is a Senior Associate in our Employment Law Group based in Auckland.

Lucy worked with Simpson Grierson in 2004 and 2005 (having previously worked at another large New Zealand firm), and subsequently for Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London for 18 months, where she advised clients on employment issues affecting many jurisdictions, gaining experience in managing and implementing the employment aspects of corporate restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, and various personnel programmes on a global scale.  Lucy returned to Simpson Grierson in January 2007.

Lucy advises on all areas of employment law and advisory work including:

• Bonus issues

She regularly assists clients with making strategic personnel changes at an executive level.

Key to addressing her clients' needs, Lucy assists both in preventing employment problems arising, and in representing clients in the event employment relationships have broken down.  In this latter capacity, Lucy regularly attends mediations and investigation meetings in the Employment Relations Authority and Employment Court.

United Kingdom Experience

• Acting as employment advisor for Compass Group plc in its ₤1.822billion sale of Select Service Partner, the travel concession catering business including the UK motorways business (Moto), to a consortium led by EQT and Macquarie Bank (Moto)
• Advising Texas Pacific Group and the British Vita Group of companies in implementing executive staff changes, in providing litigation advice in defending employment tribunal claims, and in carrying out corporate restructurings
• Advising O2 Holdings plc in its acquisition of ISP Be Un Limited
• Working for Deutsche Bank as in-house employment law counsel for the United Kingdom and Western Europe
• Providing executive employment advice to online gaming provider PartyGaming Plc

New Zealand Experience

• Acting as junior counsel for Three Foot New Zealand  Supreme Court (over the definition of contractors under section 6 Employment Relations Act)
• Assisting Fletcher Aluminium Limited in supporting counsel capacity in bringing restraint of trade claim against former employee, appearing at Employment Court and assisting at successful appeal heard by Court of Appeal
• Appearances at the Employment Tribunal (United Kingdom), Employment Relations Authority, Employment Court, District Court, High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court

• Co-presenter of paper on the implications of new age discrimination legislation to the In-house Employment Lawyers Association (UK)
• Regular presenter of seminars both internally and externally to clients and colleagues
