Michelle van Kampen is a Senior Associate in Simpson Grierson's Local Government and Environment Group, within the Resources and Infrastructure Department.

She assists corporate clients and territorial authorities with Resource Management issues, including providing legal opinions, strategic advice, and managing resource consent applications and appeals.

Michelle also provides advice and legal assistance to corporate clients in the minerals industry, particularly with matters relating to the Resource Management Act, Crown Minerals Act, Mining Act and Coal Mines Act.  She has an interest in climate change matters, particularly as they affect the minerals industry.

Michelle has experience in due diligence exercises.

• Council hearing and resolution of Environment Court appeals for a new quarry pit at the existing Bombay Quarry
• Appearing for the New Zealand Minerals Industry Association in the Environment Court, High Court and Court of Appeal hearings on the proposed Thames-Coromandel District Plan and use of prohibited activities
• Obtaining the necessary resource consents for sand extraction in the Kaipara Harbour including appearing at the Council and Environment Court hearings
• Council hearing and resolution of Environment Court appeals for the Favona underground gold and silver mine in Waihi
• Council hearing regarding the change in conditions for the Bombay Quarry
• Appearing at Environment Court appeal hearings for various Council clients
