Peter is a Partner in Simpson Grierson's Commercial Department.  In practice for nearly 25 years and a partner for 18, he leads a team of five lawyers and two support staff.

Specifically, Peter's team is responsible for helping:

• mid-sized (often family-owned) companies grow;
• companies navigate the maze of intricate laws that govern the selling and marketing of products and services;
• corporate and insolvency practitioners on credit issues;
• foreign investors set up in New Zealand; and
• forestry and wood products industries on acquisitions and joint ventures through to operational contracts.

He is New Zealand's leader in sales and marketing law which includes all areas of:

• food and nutraceuticals
• advertising and promotions
• events and sponsorship
• direct selling
• compliance
• distribution, supply and licensing

Peter has spent nearly 20 years advising on the legal aspects of events and venues (which includes issues like risk management).  He was a founding member of the NZ Events & Sponsorship Association and his role on the Tourism New Zealand Board and involvement with Auckland City and Hamilton City (see below), have given him additional insights into event management and destination marketing. 

Peter acts for event organisers such as:

• Netball New Zealand Inc (for nearly 20 years);
• New Zealand Rugby League Inc (since March 2009);
• TTNL Ltd - organiser of the ANZ Netball Championship (all set-up work and subsequent advice); and
• Yachting New Zealand (for four  years).

Peter is the legal counsel for The New Zealand Marketing Association and the Direct Selling Association of New Zealand - he specialises in all aspects of direct marketing and direct selling law, including the law relating to network marketing.  He was a bi-monthly columnist for New Zealand's Marketing Magazine from 1995 to 2009 and regularly speaks on marketing law topics.

Peter also advises forestry and wood products companies (particularly overseas-based companies) on acquisitions and joint ventures through to operational contracts.  Since 1987 he has led the legal team in more than 70 acquisitions and joint ventures.

Peter has advised corporates, and insolvency practitioners, on credit issues since 1985 and was named New Zealand's leading lawyer for insolvency and restructuring expertise by Who'sWhoLegal 2006.  He was also named as a Leading Lawyer in Corporate/M&A in the 2006 edition of Chambers Global.
