Open source software, and the related risks/benefits, is always a hot topic of discussion. Our first article this month covers current developments and the consultation process around the most common form of open source licence, the GNU General Public Licence, estimated to be used as the basis for as much as 75 per cent of the world's open source software. Jonathan Lewin and Karen Ngan of our Information and Communications Technology Group examine the approach being taken to digital rights management and software patents.
Marc Cropper, also of our Information and Communications Technology Group, joins Karen Ngan for our second article this month. We look at the risks associated with not clearly stipulating key terms and timeframes in system implementation arrangements.
In the third article this month, Sarah Chapman and Earl Gray of our Intellectual Property Group provide an update to InternetNZ's proposal to adopt a domain name dispute resolution process based on a UK model. We provide an overview of comments received with relation to the draft policy.
The last article this month gives food for thought to those in the biotech and agritech industries. Here Karla Horstmans and Earl Gray report on a case involving infringement of plant variety rights.
