We have 4 articles for you in this issue.

The Sione's Wedding counterfeiting saga has finally ended – with a surprisingly lenient penalty for the initial perpetrator. In our first article, Earl Gray and Richard Watts discuss how this is yet another signal to rights-owners in the vulnerable areas of film, music and computer games, that prevention is better than cure.

Next, have you really thought about what would be an appropriate second level domain for you, your business or interest group? When registering a domain name, most of us think of the standard .co.nz, .net.nz and .org.nz. However, there are many other options available which Sarah Chapman and Richard Watts examine further.

Our third article is about the new identity verification service (IVS) the government is planning to introduce that will allow users to prove their identity to government agencies online and in real time to a high level of confidence. It will allow users to access a greater range of government services online where proof of identity is required (eg passport renewals, student loan applications). Submissions on the IVS are to be made to the Department of Internal Affairs by 4 pm, Friday 7 December 2007. Karen Ngan and Matt Smith provide an overview of the new proposed service.

And in our fourth article, Force Majeure - Expecting the Unexpected, Karen Ngan and Marc Cropper examine how sometimes things happen that are beyond an IT/communications supplier's control, resulting in the supplier being unable to perform its service or supply obligations. The article examines the role of "force majeure" clauses in IT/communications related agreements in such circumstances and highlights some of the issues that need to be considered upfront.
