Impressive showing in guide to world's leading financial law firms

01 Oct 2008

A move into the top tier of the capital markets practice area is just one of the notable achievements of Simpson Grierson in the recently published IFLR1000, 2009 Edition – the guide to the world's leading financial law firms.

Simpson Grierson's ascent from tier two to tier one in the Capital Markets practice area is an outstanding achievement, complemented by a continued position of strength in Banking & Finance, Mergers & Acquisitions and Restructuring & Insolvency.

The guide states, "Simpson Grierson has been promoted to the top tier after universal praise from peers and clients, one of which says: They have a unique understanding of how to navigate issues quickly and effectively, making processes a lot less painful…very innovative when it comes to tackling challenges and are the nicest bunch you'll ever have the pleasure of working with. A first-rate firm, all in all."

Simpson Grierson also has five leading lawyers named – two more than the 2008 rankings, a result the firm is tremendously proud of. Partners Peter Eady and Andrew Harkness were recognised in Banking & Finance, Andrew Harkness in Capital Markets, Peter Hinton and Kevin Jaffe in Mergers & Acquisitions, and Steve Flynn in Restructuring & Insolvency.

This is the 19th annual edition of the IFLR1000, which recommends the best law firms advising or corporate finance in more then 100 countries, based on face-to-face and telephone interviews with leading in-house counsel and private-practice lawyers. The firms that rank the highest are those seen by clients and competitors to be the strongest in terms of "their capacity for innovation; their ability to advise on complex, cross-border deals; and the quality of their client service – not simply those with the most or biggest deals.
