Prime Minister John Key opened the 2010 Local Government NZ conference 'Building prosperous places' at Auckland's SKYCITY Convention Centre today, with over 500 delegates expected to attend.

Once again Simpson Grierson is proud to be a gold sponsor of this conference. Wellington partner Jonathan Salter welcomed all delegates to the conference at the Simpson Grierson hosted cocktail reception on Sunday night.

A key topic of discussion at the conference is the role local councils will play in rebuilding local economies, economic development and the relationships between local and central government.

Speakers include Local Government Minister Rodney Hide, Mayors Len Brown and Andrew Williams, Transport Minister Stephen Joyce, Building and Construction Minister Maurice Williamson, Treaty Negotiations Minister Chris Finlayson and Local Government Minister John Carter.
