Agriculture & Forestry

New Zealand has an international reputation for the extraordinary growth rates of its forests. This has captured the imagination of forestry investors for a long time. Our forestry and wood products industries have capitalised on this reputation, by developing a sophisticated infrastructure to drive domestic use and exports.

We have proudly worked alongside the forestry sector for nearly 25 years. Our forestry specialists work with experts, across our other practice areas, to deliver a wide range of services. Our services include acquisition of forestry assets, joint ventures, operational advice (from planting and harvesting to processing and exporting), and tax structuring.

We have advised timber investment management organisations (TIMOs) and overseas investors. These investors include Matariki Forests, Soper-Wheeler, Blakely Pacific, The Campbell Group, Global Forest Partners, and Weyerhaeuser. We have also acted for local enterprises such as Fletcher Challenge Forests.

Primary Production

We are an experienced adviser to primary sectors other than forestry. These sectors include meat production, processing, and horticulture. We regularly advise clients that manufacture, promote, and sell primary produce.

Animal Welfare

Animal welfare is increasingly important in terms of international trade and consumer relations, affecting the public image of primary producers and their brands. We have specialist staff to advise upon the Animal Welfare Act, codes of welfare, emerging issues and trends (both in New Zealand and overseas), and consumer concerns.
