Legislating Against Spam - New Spam Bill Introduced to Parliment September 2005: The much anticipated Unsolicited Electronic Messages Bill (Spam Bill) was introduced to Parliament in late July 2005. The Spam Bill implements the Government's decisions on the regulation of electronic messages and is intended to be part of a multi-tiered strategy to combat the growth of spam along with self-regulation in the form of industry codes of practice, education and awareness campaigns, improved technical measures and international co-operation. If enacted, the Spam Bill could have a significant impact on many organisations (particularly organisations engaged in direct marketing and internet service providers).
