Auckland Unitary Plan
We are a key adviser to Auckland Council on the development of the new Unitary Plan for the Auckland region. This is the largest planning document ever undertaken in New Zealand and incorporates twelve plans from the eight councils in the Auckland region prior to the amalgamation in 2010.
The Unitary Plan will help ensure Auckland meets the economic and housing needs of a growing population. When it's finalised, the plan will be the first ever combined regional policy statement, regional plan and district plan for Auckland.
The project has involved working with the Council team to present the proposed planning provisions to the Independent Hearings Panel. We worked with Council officers, developing a response to the submissions proposing changes to the plan provisions, attended pre-hearing meetings, mediations, negotiations, and prepared evidence to support the Council's position before the Hearings Panel.
The hearings were completed in May and the Council decision to adopt the plan was announced in August.
