Phillip Merfield

Phillip is a consultant in the firm's commercial property group. Over the past 25 years he has made his mark on many large infrastructure and property related transactions. He advises public corporations, utility companies, and investors on all aspects of property law, including commercial leases, acquisitions and disposals, subdivisions, infrastructure, and development.

His expertise also extends to significant due diligence investigations on infrastructure, property, farming, and forestry assets where he has subsequently negotiated the acquisition or disposal of those assets and prepared the transaction documents.

  • Auckland Council and Auckland Transport - major transport interchange for rail and buses, over which a new Manukau Institute of Technology and rail station are to be built
  • Matariki Forests (the owner of New Zealand's third largest forest estate) - property issues in connection with the proposed sale of its forest assets
  • Blakely Pacific - acquisition of major South Island forest from Ngai Tahu
  • North Shore City Council (and now Auckland Transport) - multi-million dollar Bus Rapid Transport Project for the Northern Busway
  • Toll New Zealand - acquisition of the rail corridor from the Crown, the sale of part of that corridor back to the Crown, and the leasing of assets for logistic stations associated with the rail corridor
  • Auckland City Council - acquisition of airspace above Sylvia Park for the South Eastern Arterial Route
  • Auckland City Council - lead advisor for the Britomart project
  • Auckland City Council - acquisition of the Wynyard Quarter
