Role for a solicitor with competition law experience to join the Auckland office of a large law firm.

  • lawyer with 3-8 years' experience, including sound competition experience
  • Excellent work and the support of a close-knit, expert team
  • Comprehensive wellbeing programme and hybrid working

Our Auckland office has an opportunity for a solicitor with 3-8 years' experience to join our leading competition team.

Working with partners who are market-leading senior competition and litigation practitioners, this opportunity would suit a Senior Solicitor or someone just at Senior Associate level who is looking for the chance to gain excellent experience, develop their skills and step up a notch.

You would be involved in:

  • assisting our clients with NZCC investigations (Commerce Act, FTA);
  • acting for clients in Court proceedings brought by the NZCC;
  • providing competition advice on acquisitions, including seeking and obtaining clearances from the NZCC;
  • providing general competition/FTA advice to our corporate clients;
  • assisting clients with leniency or co-operation applications;
  • providing training to clients on these issues.

The team also undertakes general commercial litigation, including advising and acting on contractual disputes, FMA investigations and securities claims, class actions, and claims relating to breaches of directors' duties.

The team is close-knit and the partners work closely with team members at all levels. There are however excellent opportunities for you to manage and mentor junior staff in this role.

You will need to have sound competition law experience - we are looking for candidates with experience either as litigators/competition lawyers, or with experience in M & A competition issues such as clearance applications.  More general regulatory and litigation experience would also be advantageous, but is not essential.

We are looking for a careful, thorough, intelligent person who enjoys intellectual challenge - in this role you have to be sure you are giving clients excellent advice.  You will also enjoy having autonomy and responsibility for your work.

You will also have the outstanding professional and career development opportunities that Simpson Grierson offers, a comprehensive wellbeing programme, hybrid working and excellent benefits.  We are proud of our diverse and inclusive culture and our reputation for putting people first in everything we do.
