M&A and capital markets Overseas investment

Simpson Grierson is pleased to launch its latest report, Expanding horizons ‐ The offshore perspective on investment into New Zealand. The report, produced in association with Mergermarket, is based on a recent survey of 80 offshore organisations and private equity firms who previously completed investments here.

The findings paint an overwhelmingly positive view of offshore demand for New Zealand assets, highlighting abundant investment opportunities for global capital seeking a stable home amid current geopolitical uncertainty.

The report explores New Zealand’s advantages as a destination market for foreign investment, key opportunity sectors, and the possible challenges for investors to negotiate.

  • Positive offshore investment outlook: 77% of respondents say they intend to invest again in New Zealand over the next three years
  • Increased M&A activity: 86% of respondents expect an increase in New Zealand's overall M&A activity through 2020
  • Sectors to watch: Offshore investors see the most opportunities in New Zealand's consumer and tech industries.
