A new report published this week by the AI Forum is calling for urgent action to apply the use of AI to address some of New Zealand’s most pressing social, environmental and economic challenges, and not wait for a formal Government led national strategy.

Simpson Grierson senior associate Louise Taylor and solicitor Matt Bartlett contributed to the legal/regulatory section of the report. Louise is a member of the AI Forum’s executive council and says the report research shows that AI is already having a positive impact in New Zealand, but investment in AI is urgently required.

There are numerous national benefits to be gained from AI supported wellbeing and sustainability, along with the multi-billion dollar boost to the economy AI could provide by 2035, and early adopters stand to benefit the most.

Our technology law team is advising clients on the best strategies to navigate the legal and regulatory risks while positioning themselves to take full advantage of the many opportunities in the AI space.

You can download the report here: Towards Our Intelligent Future - An AI Roadmap for New Zealand.
