Simpson Grierson is proud to announce its sponsorship of a major exhibition from City Gallery Wellington Te Whare Toi by acclaimed British artist Cornelia Parker, opening in October 2026, as part of the gallery’s return to Te Ngākau Civic Square.
Nick Chapman, Partner at Simpson Grierson says: "We are delighted to support the Cornelia Parker exhibition at City Gallery Wellington, an initiative that marks the Gallery's return to Te Ngākau Civic Square following extensive refurbishment.
"This partnership reflects our commitment to fresh perspectives, as well as our commitment to the city’s vibrant cultural scene and its place on the global stage.
"As a proud sponsor, we see this exhibition as a celebration of creativity and resilience; values that define both Wellington and New Zealand. This is world-class contemporary art and will be a marquee event for the city.
“Congratulations to City Gallery Wellington and Wheako Pōneke Experience Wellington for bringing to our shores what promises to be an extraordinary exhibition. We’re so excited to see the positive impact this exhibition will have on our community and the wider arts sector," says Nick.
The exhibition will be curated by independent UK-based curator Andrea Schlieker and City Gallery Wellington’s Senior Curator, Aaron Lister, and will feature Parker's large-scale, immersive installations exploring themes of transformation and renewal as well as other works including photos, film, sound and paintings; work that will resonate with domestic and international visitors alike.
Simpson Grierson Managing Partner, Andrew Harkness says: "Our Wellington office has been located in the heart of the government and civic precinct for over four decades, and this sponsorship reflects our long-standing investment in our city, its communities and our clients.
“Wheako Pōneke Experience Wellington is not only a valued client but a cultural institution that enriches Wellington and makes our capital a more vibrant place to live and work.
“Supporting this exhibition at such a pivotal moment for the Gallery and Civic Square is a natural extension of our commitment and investment in Aotearoa New Zealand," says Andrew.
Running from 10 October 2026 to 7 March 2027, City Gallery Wellington anticipates 70,000 - 90,000 visitors to the exhibition, which will contribute significantly to the vitality of Wellington's city centre.
