Jacob is an experienced commercial litigator with expertise in a broad range of disputes.

He regularly acts on major commercial cases relating to breach of contract, insurance, construction, product liability and class actions. 

Jacob has extensive experience in mediation, arbitration and court proceedings, including as counsel in a number of significant and long-running commercial trials in the High Court.

Jacob joined the firm in 2021 after spending five years at another large New Zealand law firm. Prior to that he worked at Dentons in the UK where he acted for major international banks in swaps litigation.

Jacob is a member of the New Zealand Insurance Law Association and the New Zealand Society of Construction Law.

Fuji Xerox litigation

Acting for the former managing director of FXNZ in the long-running Fuji Xerox litigation.  The High Court claim was brought by various Fuji Xerox entities and involved allegations of inappropriate accounting and breaches of director’s duties. 

James Hardie

Part of the defence team that successfully defended James Hardie in two significant High Court proceedings in 2020/2021 relating to its Harditex product.

BlueScope Steel

Represented the ASX-listed company defending a breach of contract claim relating to the sale of an ironsand mine, seeking damages in excess of $500 million.

Represented numerous parties on complex Construction Contracts Act adjudication claims.

Appeared as junior counsel in a multi-million dollar commercial rent review arbitration.

Advised an energy company on construction contract issues affecting a number of its power plants.

Barclays Bank

Acting in a significant portfolio of claims in relation to the alleged mis-selling of interest rate swaps and LIBOR manipulation.
