Simpson Grierson has an opportunity for a Senior Solicitor or Senior Associate (4-8 years’ PQE) to join our Auckland litigation team, part of a National Practice Group across our three offices.

Our team is known for high-quality, complex dispute work and a genuinely collaborative culture. You’ll work closely with four partners in Auckland, each bringing leading expertise, meaning you’ll get exposure to a broad range of matters.  You’ll have the opportunity to build on your established experience, developing your strengths and profile, while collaborating with and contributing to the wider practice.

This role will suit someone who is ambitious and enjoys being part of a team that works across multiple areas of litigation and who also takes pride in supporting and developing junior lawyers.

About the work

We act on a wide range of disputes and provide strategic advice on potential liability in a broad range of areas, such as:

• Financial markets and company law disputes, including shareholder and directors’ duties proceedings
• Class actions and litigation-funded claims
• Regulatory investigations and advice, including by the Commerce Commission, Financial Markets Authority and Serious Fraud Office
• Competition, fair trading and consumer law advice and litigation
• Privacy, media, and reputation issues, including cyber-attacks, defamation, harmful digital communications and digital content liability
• Product liability, insurance, and major commercial claims involving complex contract and tort issues
• Property and commercial litigation, including contractual disputes, Public Works Act compensation, rent reviews, and advocacy in all courts including specialist tribunals

• Run and support litigation matters from beginning to end, including through negotiation, investigations, mediation, arbitration and court proceedings
• Draft high-quality commercial advice, pleadings and submissions, and work closely with clients on practical solutions
• Support and mentor junior lawyers, and contribute to a positive, high-performing team culture
• Work directly with partners on significant disputes
• Help build client relationships and contribute to business development

• 4-8 years’ litigation experience
• Strong written and verbal advocacy skills, with sound judgement and a practical approach
• Confidence working directly with clients and taking ownership of your matters
• A genuine team mindset — collaborative, supportive, and willing to pitch in
