Simpson Grierson is looking for an experienced Senior Solicitor or Senior Associate to join our Corporate/Commercial team, working closely with partner Catherine Shipton.

This is a rare opportunity aimed at a transactional corporate/commercial lawyer looking to live and work in Christchurch, while being fully connected to one of New Zealand's leading national practices and involved in major, high-quality work.  Candidates from Auckland or Wellington should still apply - there is an option to work in our other offices for the best person.

About the role

Our national Corporate/Commercial practice is busy, ambitious and well-integrated.  You'll be part of a smaller, collegial Christchurch office, while working closely with colleagues nationally on some of New Zealand's best transactions, including a future pipeline of premier corporate, infrastructure and energy work.  Catherine works with signfiicant clients, both domestic and international and has acted on many recent significant transactions, including Christchurch Men's Prison PPP, Northland Corridor PPP, the Watercare $4bn debt capital markets raise and the 2degrees/Macquarie Towers deals. 

The role will suit someone with a transactional background (corporate or financing) who relishes commercial problem-solving, and who is keen to take on matters that are complex, meaningful and often hard to access outside of the larger centres. Simpson Grierson is one of a small number of firms involved in this calibre of major infrastructure and energy projects, making this a distinctive opportunity to develop a strong practice from Christchurch wihout compromising ono the quality, scale or profile of the work.  The team is very integrated with the Auckland and Wellington teams too so you will be engaged on matters across the national practice on a daily basis.

About you

You'll be an experienced corporate/commercial lawyer with 5+ years' PQE, who has the confidence to manage matters and client relationships with sound judgement and a practical, commercial approach.  Experience in infrastructure or energy would be an advantage, as would financing experience. But just as important will be your abiilty to stay calm, communicate clearly and help drive transactions forward.
