Simpson Grierson has advised ASX-listed Kelsian Group Limited on its acquisition of Belaire Ferries, an established Auckland-based ferry operator providing services to West Harbour and Rakino Island.

This transaction was entered into alongside Kelsian’s successful joint bid with Belaire Ferries for Auckland Transport’s Western Package Ferry Contract, covering passenger ferry services in Auckland Harbour from 1 July 2027.

Kelsian is Australia’s largest multi-modal bus and ferry operator, and this transaction marks the company’s entry into the New Zealand market.

Simpson Grierson Corporate Partner, Edward Norman, who co-led the deal says: “Our team was pleased to support Kelsian throughout the transaction, and it is fantastic to see the company enter New Zealand’s public transport market. We have no doubt that Kelsian’s experience and expertise will deliver meaningful change for ferry services in the Auckland region.”

The Simpson Grierson team was led by Corporate Partners Edward Norman and Michael Pollard and included Senior Associate Louw Wessels, Senior Solicitor Caleb Antonio-Rooney, and Solicitors Rosie Dossor and Liam Brennan.
