Sarah specialises in public and administrative law, with particular expertise in litigation, parliamentary processes, administrative decision-making, Māori / Crown relations, and inquiries.

Sarah advises clients across the public and private sectors on statutory compliance and strategic engagement with government. Her work includes managing disputes, supporting decision makers, and guiding clients through inquiries, legislative processes, and high profile issues. 

She has considerable litigation experience, including before High Court and Court of Appeal, and specialist bodies, such as Waitangi Tribunal, Coroner’s Court, Māori Land Court and Commissions of Inquiries.

As member of Te Paringa Tai, Simpson Grierson’s Māori Business Unit, Sarah is also experienced in Crown / Māori relations issues, with particular expertise in te Tiriti and customary rights.

Representing the Speaker of the House of Representatives on a New Zealand Bill of Rights 1990 claim relating to a trespass notice following the COVID-19 protest.

Advising range of public and private clients on parliamentary procedure, law reform, and regulations review committee, including, drafting amendments to legislation.

Advising and acting for local authorities regarding their te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations and recognition of customary rights and tikanga.

Advising and acting for Māori and other forestry participants regarding their customary rights in light of changes to the Emissions Trading Scheme.

Representing crown entities and community / religious organisations in commissions of inquiry and coronial inquiries.

Acting for the public sector organisations, education providers and community / religious organisations against allegations of discrimination before the Human Rights Commission, and Human Rights Review Tribunal.

Advising public and private clients in respect of privacy obligations, Official Information Act requests, and Ombudsman complaints.
