Nina Blomfield

Nina is a partner in the firm’s commercial litigation group. She is a specialist in complex litigation and the resolution of commercial disputes, and has extensive experience in negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and court proceedings.

Nina has a particular focus on company and financial markets law, shareholder disputes, regulatory matters, breach of contract, class actions, and litigation funding.

She also has expertise in competition law issues arising in business acquisitions, and regularly assists clients to obtain clearance for transactions from the Commerce Commission.

  • Financial Markets Authority - acting in proceedings against NZX-listed CBL Corporation Limited (In Liquidation) and its directors and chief financial officer alleging breaches of IPO disclosure and continuous disclosure obligations in the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013
  • Former non-executive directors of ASX-listed Arowana International - acting in a class action proceeding by shareholders in Intueri Education Group alleging breaches of IPO disclosure obligations in the Securities Act 1978
  • NZX-listed company in an arbitration relating to a minority shareholder buy-out under the Companies Act 1993
  • Accident Compensation Corporation and Guardians of the NZ Superannuation Fund - acting in a claim against New Zealand Post for breach of warranties given in connection with the sale of shares in Kiwibank
  • Macquarie Bank - defending a claim by a large group of investors in relation to the loss of funds they invested with Coral Investment Securities
  • Petrobras - acting in a judicial review proceeding by Greenpeace and Te Whānau-ā-Apanui concerning the Minister of Energy’s decision to award an exploration permit in the Raukumara Basin
  • New Zealand Oil & Gas in the Royal Commission of Inquiry on the Pike River Coal Mine Tragedy
  • New Plymouth District Council - defending a large number of claims by leaseholders of land following the Council’s decision to offer the land to the Crown for use in addressing historical Treaty of Waitangi claims
  • British Sky Broadcasting - acting in a £700 million claim against Electronic Data Systems (now part of Hewlett Packard) for fraudulent misrepresentation, breach of contract and negligent misstatement arising out of the installation of a new customer relationship management system
