Nina Blomfield

Nina is a senior associate in the firm's commercial litigation group. She has worked on a wide range of complex contractual and tortious disputes, as well as matters involving commercial property. She also advises on regulatory issues and has particular expertise in the energy and gambling sectors.

Nina has extensive experience in resolving commercial disputes through negotiation, mediation and court proceedings.

Examples of Work

  • Macquarie Bank - defending a claim by a large group of investors who allegedly lost funds they invested with Coral Investments Securities, and which was deposited into accounts with Macquarie in Australia, and obtaining a stay of that claim in New Zealand under the Trans-Tasman Proceedings Act 2010 on the basis that the claim should be determined by a court in Australia
  • Petrobras - acting in judicial review proceedings brought by Greenpeace and Te Whanau-a-Apanui concerning the Minister of Energy's decision to award an exploration permit in the Raukumara Basin
  • New Zealand Oil & Gas - acting in the Royal Commission of Inquiry on the Pike River Coal Mine Tragedy
  • New Plymouth District Council - defending a large number of claims in the High Court and Court of Appeal by leaseholders of land following the Council's decision to offer the land to the Crown for use in addressing historical Treaty of Waitangi claims
  • DB Breweries - defending a claim in the High Court by a tenant in connection with the fit-out of commercial premises in Wellington
  • New Zealand Community Trust - advising on regulatory issues and compliance with the Gambling Act 2003
  • British Sky Broadcasting - acting in a £500 million claim against an IT supplier for fraudulent misrepresentation, breach of contract and negligent misstatement arising out of the installation of a new customer relationship management system 
  • London market insurers - advising on proceedings issued in Australia concerning the avoidance of an international directors' and officers' liability insurance policy 
  • Numerous UK law firms - defending claims for deceit, negligence and breach of contractual and fiduciary duties in respect of retainers concerning tax, property transactions and lending arrangements
  • PGG Wrightson - acting in claims for breach of contract and conversion of goods arising out of unauthorised transactions
