Sarah Mitchell

Sarah is a senior associate in the firm’s Auckland-based local government and environment group.

Sarah works with a wide range of corporate clients, local authorities and CCOs, providing advice on resource management and local government legal issues. She has expertise in large project work and the management of complex appeals. She appears regularly in Council hearings and before the Environment Court and High Court on resource consent applications, district plan and designation appeals and judicial review and declaration proceedings. Sarah also provides advice on environmental due diligence for commercial transactions.

Sarah has also worked as a planning lawyer in the United Kingdom, with a practice focussed predominantly on major infrastructure projects.

  • Fletcher Residential - advice on the proposed redevelopment of the Three Kings quarry into a high density residential area with an extensive open space network
  • Fletcher Concrete and Infrastructure - advice in relation to the development of the former quarries at Wiri North and Wiri South
  • Watercare Services - advice on consenting for the Army Bay replacement outfall
  • Tauranga City Council - successful application to vary the Comprehensive Stormwater Consent held for the Papamoa Catchment and resolution of Environment Court appeals
  • Auckland City Council - assisted in the promotion of plan changes and notices of requirement to enable the urban renewal and redevelopment of Wynyard Quarter as a mixed use precinct, including managing the resolution of numerous Environment Court appeals
  • Auckland City Council - advice in relation to its successful application for resource consents for the construction and operation of the Viaduct Events Centre, Halsey Street Extension Wharf, and the settlement of all Environment Court appeals
  • Auckland Transport - successfully resolving the Environment Court appeals lodged in relation to Stage 2 of the Silverdale Park and Ride
  • Due diligence advice on resource management issues arising from the sale of various properties and businesses
