Tara Wylie

Tara is a partner in the commercial property group in Auckland.

She advises clients on all aspects of commercial property law. Tara has a broad range of experience specialising in sales and acquisitions, agribusiness (principally forestry and viticulture), energy, property development and commercial leasing (including complex design and build negotiations).

Tara provides in depth advice on overseas investment and has prepared a large number of successful overseas investment office applications. Tara has been heavily involved in legislative change relating to the Overseas Investment Act over the past few years. She also provides general property advice and undertakes due diligence investigations for both vendors and purchasers on one-off and large-scale portfolio transfers.

Tara joined the firm in August 2012 after working for over ten years for two large London law firms, and prior to that for a Wellington firm.

  • Acting for both listed and unlisted companies and individuals, providing advice in relation to sales, acquisitions and leasing, development of residential and commercial property, vineyards and overseas investment
  • Microsoft - overseas investment advice and obtaining significant business assets consent for the establishment of a cloud based data centre in New Zealand
  • Roxy Pacific - acquisition of 205 Queen St in Auckland for $174 million, Auckland's largest CBD deal since 2010, and NZI Building as well as ongoing property portfolio advice
  • Fletcher Building - general commercial property advice, development agreements, and overseas investment advice
  • New Zealand Carbon Farming - acting in relation to its New Zealand wide forestry leasing program, acquisition of existing forest land and farm land for new forest plantings (for its ETS program)
  • Auckland Council / Panuku Development Auckland - America’s Cup 36 - providing strategic property advice and leading negotiations on Team Base leases and waterspace licences, arrangements with berth holders and the race village venue licence
  • BP Oil New Zealand - property advice for BP's New Zealand dealer operated sites and advising on BP’s sale and leaseback transaction to Charter Hall Retail REIT
  • Auckland Council - advising on commercial and community leasing portfolio
  • Constellation Brands New Zealand - land acquisition and disposal, leasing, easements, overseas investment, and general property advice
  • Auckland University of Technology - commercial property advice
  • DLF Seeds - $421 million purchase of PGG Wrightson’s seed and grain business (property and overseas investment advice)
  • Bunnings - overseas investment advice on acquisition and leasing of property for its megastores
  • Scentre Group (Westfield) - leasing and licensing matters relating to its significant property portfolio
  • Solid Energy - property financing, disposals, leasing, mining and agricultural issues, and general advice
