Edward Norman

Edward is a Senior Associate, working across the firm’s commercial and banking & finance groups.

Edward specialises in the financing and commercial elements of projects in the transportation, infrastructure and defence sectors, including PPP transactions. He advises a wide range of market participants, including banks, institutional investors, corporates, sponsors and investment funds.

Edward also has broad experience advising clients on a variety of commercial matters, including asset sales, procurement, leasing, services agreements and manufacture and supply arrangements.

Edward joined the firm in 2021 after spending eight years at Clifford Chance in London. Prior to that he worked at another large New Zealand law firm in Wellington.

  • Affinity Flying Training Services Limited - financing and commercial elements of the UK Military Flying Training Services fixed wing PPP transaction, delivering fixed wing training capacity to the UK Ministry of Defence
  • AirTanker Limited - various financing and commercial matters relating to the £2 billion air-to-air refuelling / Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft PPP with the UK Ministry of Defence
  • Funder syndicate (comprised of banks and institutional investors) - £900 million financing provided to joint venture between SMBC Leasing and Equitix for the procurement and leasing of multiple fleets of rolling stock for the UK Wales & Borders rail franchise
  • Rock Rail West Coast Plc (joint venture between Rock Rail and Aberdeen Standard Investments as sponsors) - £350 million financing, procurement and leasing of rolling stock manufactured by Hitachi Rail Limited for the UK West Coast rail franchise (together with advising Rock Rail and Aberdeen Standard Investments on multiple other UK rolling stock financing transactions)
  • The Royal Bank of Scotland, Lombard North Central - restructuring of helicopter financing facility in respect of a fleet of helicopters leased to CHC Helicopters, arising out of the CHC Group filing for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
  • The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, Standard Chartered Bank - issuance of US$300 million repackaged notes by Bank of Communications Financial Leasing Co., Ltd, secured against a portfolio of 8 aircraft / aircraft loans
  • GE Capital - EUR1.4 billion sale of its French home loan receivables portfolio to a FCT securitisation vehicle (backed by BAWAG P.S.K.) as part of the broader disposal by GE Capital of GE Money Bank
